LANDSCAPE DESIGN

Grant’s Gardens, Inc. is a professional landscape design and installation company. Our design focus was sensitive to transitions from the residence to open space. We believe the need for open areas is important to take full advantage of the panoramic views. With the use of palms, turf, bamboo, drought tolerant shrubs/groundcovers, water features and hardscaping, it was our intent to enhance the use of the outdoors for relaxation, contemplation, socializing and entertainment.

The bamboo hedge crates a vegetation buffer around the property. The graceful movement of the bamboo canes and leaves in the ocean breeze serves to soften building facades and site facilities. It is important to integrate and articulate architectural and site design in conjunction with landscape design in the planning process. It was the designer’s intent that the residence had an attractive and uncluttered setting. With ample sweeping turf lines, giving rise to an estate like atmosphere we have created the essence of simplicity.

The landscape design maintained a selective palette of indigenous and site-adaptive plant species that promote Xeriscape principles. Xeriscape principles will ensure a sustainable landscape that promotes water conservation and salt tolerance. The location and positioning of the Coconut Palms was critical to ensure that they reflected the natural formation of plantings in the wild, but at the same time framed spectacular ocean views.

Consistency and repetition was am important goal in the design. Our designers created repetition or unity by repeating alike elements. Consistency was achieved by fitting all of the different elements of the landscape together to create a whole. Turf is an important element in the design. Sea Isle Paspalum was fitting for the rear yard due to its salt and drought tolerance. Empire Zoysia was selected for the front yard due to its aesthetic qualities. Both grass species are fine bladed varieties.

Site grading followed engineering drainage patterns. However, the grading was sympathetic to existing land forms and provided appropriate transition of architectural elements to grade. The grading plan directed and provided adequate flow of roof/downspout and sheeting water to catch basins, while gracefully contouring the land to blend with existing conditions of the site. The sensitive use of site grading was used to provide aesthetic berming qualities to the rear yard development, adding interest to flatness of the rear yard, which had little or no natural topographic interest. The berming will also provide a calming affect to wave action during tidal surges.

Through careful planning and design it is our hope that Grant’s Gardens design specialists have realized this properties full potential.
